Tourist Atrractions In Kabale

1.         Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

The Park is located to the north-west of Kabale district, about 120 kilometres from Kabale town.  The Park, upgraded to National Park status and gazetted in 1991, covers a total area of 321 square kilometres.  Although accessibility to the Park through Kabale is currently better than the various other routes, most of the Park is found in Rukungiri and Kisoro districts.

The Park together with Mgahinga National Park are home to more than half of the world’s remaining stocks of the endangered mountain gorilla.  In addition, the Park is said to have the richest bio-diversity in East Africa representing the rare Afro-montane and Afro-alpine. Besides secondary activities such as butterfly viewing and watching Albertine Rift endemic birds, gorilla viewing in the Bwindi Park is currently the most important tourist attraction for Uganda. The Park’s attractions are of international significance and the community tourism activities, such as forest and nature walks, in the areas bordering the Park, are also becoming important.

2.         Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi is a crater lake, situated about 10 kilometers from Kabale town.  This is the deepest Lake in Uganda.

Although relatively small, the lake is punctuated with several Islands that are attractive to tourism activities.  The fairly flat areas around the lake and on the Islands have offered good opportunity for development of tourist holiday accommodation and camping activities.

Other attractions at the lake include fishing of shrimps, canoeing and professional swimming.
